Hey! Name’s Iver Marjerison. I’m a wedding planner and officiant who specializes in small weddings, micro-weddings, and elopements. I created Elope Colorado as a simple service to help couples plan last-minute weddings that are: stress-free, simple, beautiful, and affordable. This is not some random blog, or online directory. I’ve personally spent years traveling the state to find the best wedding locations, and work with a hand-picked team of the best wedding vendors in Colorado.

Ceremony Sites
Legally speaking, Colorado is the perfect destination for a last-minute wedding, because they have no “waiting period” (which means you can easily pick up your license and get married in the same day). More importantly though, Colorado is the perfect spot to elope because of all the beautiful locations that are free to get married at!
Below you’ll find a variety of ceremony sites that work great for last minute micro-weddings and elopements in Colorado. Each of them offer a unique variety of views, and they are all free to use (my team holds all necessary permits). If you want to keep things simple, Denver and Boulder are our most affordable options, and also the closest to Denver International Airport, if you’re flying in for a same-day wedding. If you want a bit more adventure, the locations in Summit County and Breckenridge are a great option for mountain elopements. Estes Park is another beautiful mountain town (near the famous Rocky Mountain National Park). We also have a great location near Colorado Springs, that features world famous red rock formations that’s perfect for a quick and easy elopement!
Max Guest Counts
Each location has a max guest count. “Guests” include ALL human beings who are not the couple getting married, and not my wedding vendors. These maximums are 100% not flexible.
Outside Vendors
We are not able to work with photographers/videographers from outside my network.
The Denver Spot
$0 Travel Fee
20 minutes west of Denver - NO UBERS!
MAX GUEST COUNT: 3
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This location has a few different options, here’s a video:
This is a busy public park, people will be around most days, but it’s most busy Friday-Sunday. Early mornings have the least amount of people around.
The Boulder Spot
+$50 Travel Fee for Photog
+$50 Travel Fee for Officiant
In Boulder, Colorado
30-45 minutes from Denver
MAX GUEST COUNT: 6
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This is a busy public park, people will be around most days, but it’s most busy Friday-Sunday. Early mornings have the least amount of people around.
The Colorado Springs Spot
+$120 Travel Fee for Photog
+$120 Travel Fee for Officiant
In Colorado Springs
1.5 hours from Denver
MAX GUEST COUNT: 15
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This is a VERY busy public park, expect other photoshoots/weddings in the area. Weekends are highly discouraged. Only really slows down early mornings.
The Breckenridge Spot
+$135 Travel Fee for Photog
+$135 Travel Fee for Officiant
In Breckenridge, Colorado
1.5 hours from Denver - NO UBERS!
MAX GUEST COUNT: 6
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
There is a Highway relatively close to this location that creates a mild ambient noise in the area. This is a busy public park, people/groups will be around most days, but it’s most busy Friday-Sunday. Early mornings have the least amount of people around.
The Summit County Spot
My top pick!
+$135 Travel Fee for Photog
+$135 Travel Fee for Officiant
Near Georgetown, Colorado
1.5 hours from Denver - NO UBERS!
MAX GUEST COUNT: 6
Only accessible June 15 - October 30
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This is a high alpine environment with volatile weather conditions, and can be very windy. Additionally the location requires a 5min walk on a dirt trail, and may require stepping over a small “stream”. While this location is also popular, it is big enough that we are able to hike in a bit and get away from people.
The Idaho Springs Spot
My Other Top Pick!
+$75 Travel Fee for Photog
+$75 Travel Fee for Officiant
Near Idaho Springs, Colorado
1 hour from Denver - NO UBERS!
MAX GUEST COUNT: 6
Only accessible June 15 - October 30
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This is a smaller area than Option 5, and generally doesn’t have a lot of people in the area. I personally like Option 5 because of the alpine lakes, but this option has a nice “Top of the World” vibe.
The Estes Park Spot
+$135 Travel Fee for Photog
+$135 Travel Fee for Officiant
Near Estes Park, Colorado
1.5 hours from Denver - NO UBERS!
MAX GUEST COUNT: 6
No seating, music, or decorations allowed
This is a nice lake side option located just outside of the town of Estes Park, Colorado, near Rocky Mountain National Park.

Colorado Elopement FAQS
-
Colorado is a popular elopement destination all year around, and we do elopements 365 days a year! The most popular time to elope in Colorado is mid-June through mid-October, but couples looking for a winter wedding should opt for February through March.
-
We do weddings outside all year around, and our groups never have indoor “backup” options. As long as your group dresses appropriately, we’ll be able to roll with whatever mother nature throws at us!
Plus - elopements are much more flexible then traditional weddings. We don’t have any decorations, we don’t have a bunch of guests to worry about, and the ceremony is much shorter. If you get uncomfortable, we can always go back to the vehicles to refresh for portraits after the ceremony.
Road Closures - in the most extreme events (very rare), if there is a government closure of the roads for any reason, we work case-by-case to figure out the best alternative for the day :)
-
Technically, the only required cost is the $35 marriage license, but many couples opt for an officiant and photographer as well.
Elope Colorado offers an All-Inclusive Elopement Package that starts at $1,300 and includes officiant, photography, marriage license guidance, and location planning.
-
In Colorado, the best time of day to elope is either sunrise, or sunset, to get the best lighting for photos.
Sunrise has the advantage of having less people in the area (if you’re using a public park), but can make for a very early morning (7am or so pending on the season).
-
When possible, eloping on a Tuesday or Wednesday, tends to be the best option in Colorado, as that is when there are the least amount of other groups and people in the parks.
However, we do elopements any day, and of course, many couples prefer weekends :)
-
In order to get legally married in Colorado, only a marriage license is required. However, some parks and venues, may require wedding parties (even small ones) to have a permit for their ceremony and/or photos.
For all Elope Colorado locations, we hold any permits that are necessary (you don’t have to pay anything for them, or worry about it).
-
No, Colorado does not have a waiting period for their marriage license. This means you can pick it up, and get married the same day!
-
Nope! Colorado does not require witnesses to sign the marriage license. There are two “witness” lines that can be signed, or left blank.
-
YES! Colorado does not legally require witnesses to sign, so many couples have started having their dog paw print the license instead.
However, some County Clerk’s have gotten annoyed with this over the years (the ink gums up their printer). So be sure to call the County Clerk you plan to use beforehand. If they say no, just let me know, and I’ll help find an alternative that works :)
-
NO! Colorado does not require a wedding officiant to sign the marriage license. They offer a unique process called “Self Solemnization” which allows couples to legally sign off on their own license without a minster, judge, or officiant.
However - many couples still opt to hire a wedding officiant to perform the ceremony and lead the day.
-
YES! Your friend can legally be your wedding officiant in Colorado.
Option A) Since Colorado does not require an officiant’s signature on the license, your friend can symbolically lead the ceremony, and then the couple can sign their own license (self-solemnization).
Option B) If you really want your friend to sign as your officiant, they simply need to get ordained.
With my planning services I provide full guidance on having a friend/family member officiate - including legal notes, ordination steps, and a sample script!
